A coalition of partners committed to the prevention of skin cancer in the province.
what we do
Saskatchewan’s source for sun safety
Using local evidence and best practices from around the world, Sun Smart Saskatchewan’s mission is to educate, inspire and support groups and communities to promote sun safe behaviours and create UVR protective environments.
Each of us can practice sun safety in our lives, but the right supports where we live, work, learn and play can help make it easy. Sun Smart Saskatchewan helps shine a light on sun safety where it matters most.
Our vision: Aware and engaged communities throughout Saskatchewan actively preventing skin cancer.
why it matters
Life’s better outside
We care about sun safety because life’s better outside, especially in Saskatchewan, where we have an abundance of sunshine to enjoy. But too much of a good thing can be harmful. Ultraviolet Radiation from the sun can cause skin damage and skin cancer.
Skin cancer is common, and preventable. 90% of skin cancers are caused by exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation from the sun or from artificial tanning.
who we are
A message from the Chair
We have known for years that the sun’s rays (and artificial UV sources) cause cancer. Our battle is to make sure UV radiation doesn’t get the chance to spark the cancer growth in the first place, and each of us can do our part. As individuals we can make safe choices about UV radiation – from staying far away from tanning beds to lathering up with appropriate sunscreen when working or playing outside. As a coalition, Sun Smart Saskatchewan can help break down barriers where we live, work, learn and play to give everyone a chance to live a life free from skin cancer. I am excited to be part of an enthusiastic group dedicated to stopping skin cancer in its tracks.
