Shade Audit: Skin Cancer Prevention By Design

In the summer of 2016, Sun Smart Saskatchewan piloted a shade audit project at a popular destination along Saskatoon’s riverfront. What we learned about the site at Saskatoon’s River Landing can be considered in other settings, such as playgrounds, pools, sporting venues, schools, early learning centres, parks, and even your own backyard. Our purpose is to demonstrate the process and value of designing outdoor spaces with shade and sun safety in mind.

Young Adults and Indoor Tanning Report

To better understand the scope of indoor tanning use among young adults in Saskatchewan and to inform policy makers and the public, Sun Smart Saskatchewan conducted a survey among young adults 18 to 24 years of age to measure their knowledge, attitudes and behaviours related to intentional tanning. The survey, collected during the spring and summer of 2014, included responses from 722 young adults from different size communities across the province.

Adolescent Tanning Survey Report

Tanning beds can cause skin cancer. The risk of skin cancer from tanning bed use is even higher among youth and young adults. To increase our understanding of the indoor tanning knowledge and behaviours of Saskatchewan youth, Sun Smart Saskatchewan conducted a survey of 500 youth aged 15-17 across the province.
